About

In 2010, Huginn was published, the first of its kind: a biannual online magazine devoted to Heathenry and Northern Tradition Neopaganism, published to create a unified forum for the mystics, dissenters, outlaws and freethinkers. Under the banner of one of Odin’s familiars, Huginn published and distributed with the mandate of casting out new, transformative Thoughts to electrify Heathenry.  With its equal emphasis on clear writing and experiential mysticism, Huginn filled a periodical niche that no one else dared.

With the strength of Huginn‘s success, there came demand for longer works: books and monographs tailored to the same intersection of mind and magic. Huginn Press was born.

In the editorial that opened the first issue of Huginn, Talas Pái wrote:

“We need Huginn, both as a vehicle for debate, for new ideas and for progressive theology, and also as a source of affirmation, a nexus for those of us working with and experiencing heathenry in a real, organic, surprising and rewarding way. Huginn is necessary to help create a vital, forward-thinking, forward-looking religion.”

That need has only grown over time and to continue to meet that need, Huginn Press has come into being. Huginn Press is a small, author-driven press devoted to publishing the highest-quality Heathen and Pagan books. Huginn is named for Thought, especially thought that goes out into the world and transforms it, and likewise Huginn Press seeks out and distributes transformative and innovative books. Faith, exploration, mysticism, community, experience, experimentation, controversy, tradition, radicalism: modern Thought for the ages.  Continuing under the Huginn banner and operating with the same mandate to publish transformative and innovative Thoughts, it is our hope that the founding of Huginn Press will serve as a voice for a living, evolving Heathen and Northern Tradition community.
